Your candidate for Toronto City Council in Toronto-Centre Rosedale Ward 27

Born and raised in Ward 27, Simon brings a fresh, informed perspective to the critical issues we face.  Drawing on his experience as a dedicated community organizer, small business advocate and heritage developer/activist – Simon is ready to take the fight to City Hall.

Simon distinguished himself in the 2006 municipal elections as the only legitimate alternative to incumbent Adam Giambrone in Ward 18. He emerged as a strong voice for the rights of senior citizens, government accountability and responsible urban planning.

In addition to Simon’s political and community involvement, he is the VP of Business Development (responsible for the implementation of new green technologies) at Seniority Investments Ltd., a leading property development and management company. It is renowned for its pioneering use of infill development and heritage restoration, in addition to the creation of Hazelton Lanes and Cumberland Terrace.

Simon’s recent community involvement includes a seat on the Bloor Yorkville BIA Planning and Preservation Urban Development Committee. He worked with the founding members of the Toronto Entertainment District BIA, Toronto’s second largest BIA. Simon also is on the board of directors of the Civics Education Network, a hands-on civics engagement program for high school students.

Simon is a founding member of the Bloor Street Improvement Group, a volunteer coalition to advance the economic, physical, cultural and social life of the economically depressed Bloor and Lansdowne area of Toronto. He was integrally involved with for the creation of an annual street fair, and led fundraising initiatives to host several associated Nuit Blanche events.

In 2007, Simon was a major presence in the successful grassroots campaign to oppose City Hall’s expropriation of The Matador, a revered Toronto musical landmark and heritage site.
